The Challenge
Tucked into the generous volume of a two-story foyer, this project transformed underutilized vertical space into a dedicated home office — a smart, architecturally considered addition that adds both function and character to the home. The new office, measuring approximately 7 by 10 feet, was carved from the foyer footprint with structural precision: an LVL beam was installed to rest on the garage wall, working in concert with an existing steel beam to carry the new floor system. Floor joists set 16 inches on center established a solid foundation, finished with a subfloor and homeowner-selected carpet that gives the space a warm, grounded feel.
