The Story
The Vision Behind This Project
The Challenge
MOSS Building & Design undertook a substantial two-story addition to this Alexandria, Virginia home, expanding the footprint by approximately 24 by 29 feet to introduce a full garage, mudroom and laundry room, a first-floor bathroom, a master suite with master bathroom, a deck, and a roughed-in second-floor bathroom. The project began with the removal of an existing carport and its concrete slab, along with selective demolition of interior walls and second-floor closet space to create a seamless connection between old and new. New slab-on-grade foundations, concrete pier footings for the deck, and a grade beam tie-in to the existing foundation established a solid structural base throughout.

Primary Bathroom Crafted around a cohesive brushed nickel palette, the primary bathroom centers on a Ferguson-sourced vanity (Model WCS141480DKGCMUNOMXX) whose integrated top arrives ready to install. The shower is outfitted with a full shower system (Model 1019-BN) and a coordinating trim valve (Model 3001-RIV-PB-BN), both in brushed nickel, while the vanity faucet (Model MNO1343ZBN) continues the finish across the sink. A Miseno Mia wall-mounted towel ring in brushed nickel (Model MNOTR500BNP) and a paper holder (Model 433265) complete the accessory suite. The toilet is a Miseno Model MNO370CBWH. Bench seat, curb, ledge, threshold, pony wall cap, and shower niche surround are rendered in snow white quartz — a crisp, unifying material note that runs throughout the wet areas. Two MR-4021 mirrors anchor the vanity wall, and ventilation is handled by a Panasonic FV-0510VS1 exhaust fan. The frameless glass enclosure, sourced through Dulles Glass, gives the shower a clean, open presence. Wedi shower wall panels and a Wedi shower floor system underlie the porcelain tile work, which extends floor to ceiling.
Pool Shower Bathroom The pool shower bathroom takes a similarly clean approach with its own distinct vanity selection — a Ferguson Model MV20BA-WH — whose top is included with the unit. The shower runs the same 1019-BN brushed nickel shower system and 3001-RIV-PB-BN trim valve as the primary, creating a quiet consistency between the two wet spaces. The vanity faucet here is a Ferguson Model S6910BN, and accessories include a matching paper holder (Model 433265). The toilet is a Miseno Model MNO370CBWH, echoing the primary bathroom's selection. A Ferguson Model 19580 B mirror completes the vanity wall. Ventilation is provided by a second Panasonic FV-0510VS1 exhaust fan, and the shower enclosure was also supplied by Dulles Glass. Tile for both bathrooms — as well as the laundry room floor — was selected and installed as a coordinated package.
Exterior The exterior door package was specified through allowance selection, with the primary entry door referencing product number 954733 and a coordinating screen door (Model 1005447860) rounding out the entry. The deck surface is finished in Trex Pebble Grey, a warm, weathered tone that pairs naturally with the white PVC post trim and the home's refreshed vinyl siding.
