The Challenge
MOSS Building & Design transformed the back of this Burke, Virginia home with a thoughtfully designed 13×14-foot addition that expands the living space while integrating seamlessly with the existing structure. The project began with the removal of an aging deck and existing exterior doors, making way for a new continuous-footing foundation with a crawl space insulated to code. Exterior walls were framed, wrapped in vinyl siding to complement the home's existing profile, and topped with a new asphalt shingle roof matched as closely as possible to the original. Energy-efficient vinyl windows and a double sliding glass door bring natural light into the space, while a new interior French double door creates a graceful connection between the addition and the breakfast nook.
